Meng-Chan Yu - Wind and Water move the Soil

“Everything is connected in some way; one link pulls another—even if some connections aren't obvious, we can't assume their absence. I abstract concrete objects to explore the most primal state of things, creating space for reflection. How is water connected to and influencing other elements in our lives? Through the installation, I aim to reveal these vague, obscure connections.
In October 2023, I stayed a month in Utrecht, the Netherlands, investigating the social phenomena and developments arising from 'water' as a focal point.
I conducted field research in nature, the city, and in scientific, artistic, and maritime-related museums. Ultimately, I chose the rotational movement driven by the wind as the primary visual representation. The wind's influence on windmills and ships can yield diverse outcomes that shape our present surroundings.”
